What is it?

The Good School brings together a focused group of students and professional creatives to collaborate, co-operate and ideate to make the world a better place. Think of it as part internship, part school, part think tank, and an opportunity for emerging creatives to do good, make industry connections and develop real-world skills.

Who’s running it?

The Good School is organised by Before Creative, a Hobart-based design and advertising agency. We believe in good ideas, good design, and doing good wherever we can. We also want to help emerging creatives (we’ve been there) – so we created The Good School.

What’s the plan?

Working with one of our NFP partners, we figure out how we can use our combined creativity to do some good. Classes will be a mix of conversations, collaborative studio time, and both solo and group idea development. Along your journey, you’ll work on real briefs with the support of industry professionals. And because we know that the next steps after completing your creative education can be confusing, we’ll help you find a path forward once The Good School is finished.

When is it?

The Good School will return in Feb 2024. It’s a four-week program with a commitment of one day per week (plus a bit of extra time for thinking and creating).

Applications are now open.

Are we an actual school?

While you won’t graduate with an official accreditation, you will leave with a heap of knowledge, industry connections, ongoing support from The Good School community.

What sort of students are we looking for?

We want students who are ready to work in the creative industry, are eager to learn and are interested in the power of ideas. If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.

What does it cost?

The Good School will cost you nothing but time – though we know that your time is valuable. That’s why, in exchange, we’ll provide you with a head start in a competitive creative industry, assistance to pursue your next step of choice, promotion of you and your good work, an ongoing support network and the good feeling that comes with doing good. We’ll also ensure fair payment is made for any profit-generating work – all terms will be clear and agreed upon before we get to work.

Will this lead to employment?

At a minimum, it’ll look good on your resume and won’t harm your career prospects.

And, although we don’t promote it, we have employed and offered internships to standout people who have completed the program.
